ON THE WATER AND BEYOND THE COURSE

Aquabike: the machine, control and training on the water

A racing personal watercraft demands precise movements and attention to the water. A closer look at the equipment and skills behind Eva’s sport.

Aquabike is a sport in which performance depends on the interaction between the rider, the personal watercraft and the water. Speed goes hand in hand with precise control: riders need to choose their line, feel how the machine responds and account for conditions on the course.

More than power

Body position, smooth inputs and balance all matter on the water. A machine’s specifications affect its handling, but they cannot replace the rider’s skills. Control develops gradually through training with a coach.

Different challenges on the course

Circuit racing places the emphasis on racing lines and pace, while slalom focuses on precise course navigation. Freestyle involves performing manoeuvres, and freeride takes riders into open water and waves. Each discipline makes its own demands on preparation and equipment.

Getting ready to train

Protective sporting equipment, checks on the condition of the machine and following the coach’s instructions form the foundation of preparation before entering the water. Attention to these details matters just as much as working on speed and turns.
